Developments in battery technology

Scientists at Stanford University (US) have developed a battery based on aluminum instead of lithium. According to the researchers their battery is fast-charging, long-lasting and inexpensive, which are desirable properties of a battery.

Save from the technical advantages of the aluminum battery, there’s another benefit which is not mentioned in the article cited. Aluminum is a more common element that than lithium on Earth and the limited amounts of lithium are a serious restriction on the emerge of, among others things, electric vehicles which should replace fossil fueled vehicles.

  1. Great news. The rapid advancement of battery technology is helping push solar energy towards cost parity with fossil fuels. That milestone is generally expected to be reached within the next 12-18 months or so.
