Washing your clothes with just one cup of water? According to UK professor Stephen Burkingsaw is that quite possible. He has invented a new type washing machine that uses nylon polymer beads which can absorb dirth from clothes with only a minimal amount of water.
This approach had several benefits. Because little water is used, clean cothes leave the machine dry and hence eliminating the need for a separate dryer. And more importantly a lot of water is saved, which is important in places were clean water is scarce – such as space settlements.
Can these polymers be used in the washing machines available today? Or do they need a special machine yet to be made?
As I have understood it, a new machine is required.
